REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE AMERICAN LEGION GOLD STAR POST 78   

IMPORTANT: ALL VETERANS MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THEIR DD 214 OR DISCHARGE. Do Not send original.

NEW MEMBERSHIP

Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to Post 78 Membership Committee:

1. Completed American Legion Gold Star Post 78 membership application.

Fill in all required data on the application form (link below).  Once you hit the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form, your information will be submitted.  If unable to submit the application via the webpage please contact the Post 78 Adjutant at his email above.  

2. COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE (Must be presented at 1st meeting after applying)

3. Membership Dues Payment ($38 for Legion).  Dues can be paid at next Post 78 Legion meeting (cash or check accepted at meetings).  Make checks payable to American Legion Gold Star Post 78. If mailing your application and dues - DO NOT MAIL CASH.

4. If the application information is correct, membership will be approved and then a membership card will be mailed to you.

5. Please see eligibility dates below...must have served between at least one of the dates listed. 

 

TRANSFERS

Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to Gold Star Post 78 must submit the following:

                                 a. Completed Member Data Form (application).
                                 b.
COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE (Present copy to Post 78 Adjutant at 1st meeting)
                                 c. Copy of
CURRENT membership card.

 

ELIGIBILITY DATES

MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces between:

(April 6, 1917 -November 11, 1918) World War I
(December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946) World War II
(June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955) Korean War
(February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975) Vietnam War
(August 24, 1982 - July 31,1984) Lebanon/Grenada
(December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990) Operation Just Cause
(August 2, 1990 - Today)* Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, OIF/OEF

Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.

Must have served at least one day of active military duty during one of the dates above and honorably discharged or still serving honorably.   If you can fulfill all the above requirements and want to submit an application for membership to Post 78 click here:

Once your application has been submitted, please send a courtesy email to the Post 78 Adjutant (adjutant@post78.com) to inform him/her of the submission

Per new IRS regulations, all Post 78 Legion members MUST provide a copy of their DD-214 to the Post 78 Adjutant.

You must first be a member of the American Legion, Auxiliary or Sons of American Legion to join the American Legion Riders.
