Welcome to the Gold Star Post 78 American Legion Riders (ALR)!!!  Our Chapter was started in Oct 2009 by four friends who wanted to incorporate their love of riding motorcycles with their desire to support local Veterans of Coffee County.

Gold Star Post 78 American Legion Rider Originals

L-R: Bob "Dough Boy" Bennett, Michael "Bootlegger" Walden, Melvin "Ghost" Ott, Darryl "Pudgie" Edwards

We are members of the American Legion Family providing the same services as our other family members...we just do it on the back of a motorcycle.  The Riders are members of the American Legion who are also motorcycle enthusiasts.  We can be found participating in parades, motorcycling events, and supporting the communities in which we live, work, and play. Members of the ALR come from the Legion, the Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion. The American Legion Riders were formed... participate in parades and other ceremonies that are in keeping with the Aims and Purposes of the American Legion. promote motorcycle safety programs and to provide a social atmosphere for American Legion members who share the same interest. use our Association to promote and support programs of the American Legion.

The American Legion Riders is not a Motorcycle Club, and does not practice M/C rules or regulations. The American Legion Riders is family-oriented, just as is its sponsoring organization: the American Legion Gold Star Post 78.

American Legion Riders chapters are well known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children's hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships.  Since the inception of The American Legion Legacy Scholarship in 2001 following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The American Legion has offered its support to the children of fallen post-9/11 service members through this scholarship. Beginning with the 2017 award year, The American Legion expanded the scholarship to include children of VA-rated, post-9/11 veterans with a disability of 50 percent or higher. Our organization remains committed to honoring the memory and service of our fallen and disabled comrades by ensuring their children are afforded the best possible educational opportunities.

Since 2006, Riders nationwide have participated in the American Legion Legacy Run, to annually raise money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund.  For more information on the American Legion Legacy Run, please click on the icon below:
